which designs and manufactures opto-electronic data communications components; Remec Q-Bit Corporation, maker of high dynamic range radio frequency amplifiers; Bradshaw Manufacturing, manufacturer of high speed printers and replacement parts; and Midwest Research Institute, a not-for-profit contract research, testing, education and training firm specializing in process chemistry, environmental, molecular biology, geographic information systems/remote sensing, national security and defense and pharmaceutical product development. All of the businesses and industries in Palm Bay are capably served by City Gas Company of Florida, provider of natural gas, other energy and communications services; Florida Power & Light, pro-viding electricity from clean fuel sources; and BellSouth, offering telecommunications, wireless communications, cable, digital TV, internet and data connections as well as advertising and publishing services. Richard Jacobs, City of Palm Bay Utilities Director, says, 'Our primary goal is to provide water and sewer infrastructure throughout the city to promote commercial, industrial and residential customer growth in our system." In high tech industries, sustained growth usually means merger, acquisition or spin-off. In places friendly to high tech industry, spin-offs are a welcome addition to economic development plans. One such example in Palm Bay is Intersil Corporation. Originally doing business as Radiation Inc., it was acquired by Harris in 1967 but ultimately diversified and came into its own. Today, with offices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and several U.S. states, Intersil makes Palm Bay
its operational headquarters. Intersil makes integrated circuits and semiconductors for the integrated communications market. These devices enable high-speed voice, data and video communications. Intersil's flagship product, the PRISM chipset, enables wireless networking at wired Ethernet speeds of11 megabits per second. So much high tech at such fantastic speeds definitely does not translate to lifestyles in Palm Bay. This is central Florida, coastal Florida palm trees, gentle breezes, great weather, family atmosphere - a laid back, friendly place glad to be spared metropolitan issues. While everyone in Palm Bay has easy access to water sports and golf it newest
and largest residential development Bayside Lakes, emphasizes them. Ben Jefferies, president of developer Town Center Partners, LTD., says Bayside has a total area of, 400 acres. This multi-phase, master planned community will help accommodate demand for additional high quality residential housing in Palm Bay, says the city's Economic Development Director Chris Norton, without affecting price.
